Bob's Story

I'm just an old steel worker from Ohio that played with telephones for 30 years and decided to live a stress free life and to be a nice guy to all regardless of how many jerks I meet.

Oops I did it again

I just saw our first baby ducks for the year. We have a lot of ducks in the pond out back and by the way they have been acting, I knew it was only a short time until the little ones would be on their way to the pond. There are several "families", but the first batch pasted our house this evening.

The duck think has nothing to do with what I was going to blog about, but I just saw them, so I thought I would mention the event.

Now for the real stuff. I went to a wedding last week. So for the first time in awhile, I wore harder shoes. After the wedding I could hardly walk, my foot was so sore. When I got home I took my shoes off and around my big toe it was swollen about the size of a golf ball. I put some ice on it and the soreness went away. However, when the swelling went down, I noticed a lump that I didn't think should be there. So I went to the foot doctor today. The short story is X-Rays were taken and he is sharpening his knife.

He showed me the x-rays. I have two pieces of bone floating around that have been trying to find a home and heal for the last 6 months. There is also some calcium build-up that has been trying to mend my bones, but since the bones were floating around and not attached, they could not find them. Hence, the calcium, not finding a bone to work with began to build one by themselves. Thus the bump. In the x-rays, there were actually two bumps, or lumps of calcium and lots of little bones floating around in my toe joints, etc.

I remember thinking I broke it last October or November. On a Saturday playing softball I hurt it doing something and it felt like the last time I broke it, so I went to one of the clinics in The Villages to check it out. The quack at the clinic took some x-rays and said he did not think the bone was broke, but he recommended I see a foot specialist to be sure. By Monday my foot felt fine, so I didn't have it checked out.

So now you may say why didn't you go to a doctor to check out your foot. I did see a doctor at the clinic. The other issue is that I'm old. Being old is sometimes painful. From one day to the next you're not sure what will be sore, but you know it you are not sore, you may be dead and that is not a good thing. Thus if you can get through the day with a couple of beers and Aleve, life is very normal and very, very good.

Now I have to find time for the surgery. The doctor said he could do it anytime and it would take about 6 weeks to mend. but I've got a cruise to go on, some Brits arriving in the colonies, two golf tournaments, the all important July 4th golf week, and that's not counting the normal softball, golf and work. I'm at least going to hold off until after the cruise which is the end of the month, but I would like to be healed by the end of June before golf week. I hate being old, weak, and feeble.

I just commented about Jebby being not-as-old-as me kind of guy and lookin' good. I'm not sure about you, though. Are you hobbling about on a cane, yet? You need to take care of yourself, older-than-me guy.
