Bob's Story

I'm just an old steel worker from Ohio that played with telephones for 30 years and decided to live a stress free life and to be a nice guy to all regardless of how many jerks I meet.

Golfing Again?

I went to the range today and hit some golf balls.  I'm not ready for prime time just yet.  After a half a bucket, I decided it was not worth any more of my time.  My big toe is still too sore.  I can swing a club, but I'm two clubs short and the ball goes right or righter.  I think I'm still protecting my left toe and can't quite get my body around.  Barbara and I are scheduled to play couples golf on a par 60 course next Thursday, so I'll probably hit a few more balls before then.  I hope I'll be ready, but if not, it's only couple's golf, so it's not a big deal.

Working Again

I went back to work this week.  I've been going crazy sitting at home, so I asked the doctor if it would be OK if I went back to work.  He told me the recovery cycle is 4 to 6 weeks, but with the stitches removed, I can do whatever I feel comfortable doing.  So I gave him release papers, required by GMS, and started back Sunday.  It's been three weeks yesterday since they cut and carved.

Sunday was OK.  All I had to do is drive around in a golf cart saying hello to everyone and telling them to play faster.  I still used the surgical shoe and rested in on the cart dash, but I did fine.  Monday morning and Wednesday afternoon I worked on the range, which is more physical.  Monday is always a light day.  I was very tired afterward and spent the rest of the day in my chair with my foot up, but otherwise, I felt fine.  Wednesday was another thing.  It was hot and humid and I was busy.  By the time I got home, my legs were killing me.  I worked for the first time with regular shoes, but because of my different gait, I was in some discomfort all evening.  So much so, I could not sleep.  I was so tired I went to bed around 9:30pm but got out of bed sometime after 11pm.  I took a couple Aleve and tried again around midnight.  I finally went to sleep, but this morning I still have a stiff leg.  Walking differently makes sore muscles.

Today will be a day of rest and I'll begin to walk more using regular shoes, so I hope next week my legs won't feel like they've been beat to death.  I may begin to swing a golf club this week and Barbara and I may play an Executive course, but I'm not yet up to playing 18 holes yet.  I'm hoping next Thursday I'll be able to begin golfing as normal, or at least begin to get a swing back so I can be a little better than a four man while in Ohio next month.

Last Day at Sea

After a seven day cruise  this is how we felt.
The golf course on the ship
Barbara zip lining on the ship.  With a broken foot, I decided to just watch.
My hand hurt, so I didn't want to enter the final tournament.  However, Barbara thought differently so I sucked it up and ended up in second place.  First place was a free cruise.
My second place winnings which I put in my pocket and walked out as one of the few real Casino winners
This is what I spent all my money on
The last night of the cruise so we walked around enjoying the ship stopping in a bar or two.  This is just before the "last night cruise party".
